Mini Mals & Funboards

The Mini Mal or funboard is the type of surfboard good for progressing a surfers technique whilst still allowing more manoeuvrability than a standard longboard. The mini mal shape normally refers to boards over 7'6 with a traditional longboard shape, allowing for stable take offs and nose riding potential. A funboard is traditionally a longer board with sharp rails and tail allowing an individual to get used to the basics of take off and pumping without all the flash! A 7'6 funboard is ideal for the surfer graduating from a 9'6 or foam board, or a fast tracked beginner!!

  • Gnaraloo Beach Cruiser surfboards provide the ultimate in fun and safety for beginner surfers. Theses boards are incredibly buoyant, stable, and easy to ride.

With an emphasis on safety and durability, the Beach Cruiser feature a thick Polyethylene deck and a soft slick skin on the bottom surface that’s tough enough to take a beating, yet is soft enough to keep beginners safe.

The secret to the performance of these boards lies within the core. An embedded plywood stringer system maintains the integrity of the rocker while providing a stiff, stable platform. This lets you paddle onto waves with minimal effort and feel confident once you’re on your feet.

These surfboards are designed to withstand the toughest of treatment, making them ideal for surf schools. The vacuum construction process eliminates hard or sharp surfaces, and prevents peeling or bubbling. A reinforced tail zone also provides added protection.

Available in a variety of sizes from 9 foot right down to 6’0″. Each board comes fitted with a convenient carry handle and an easy-to-use fin system complete with flexible thruster fin set.

    Softshell Construction

Boards with Soft Shell construction feature much more technology then the eye can see. They are a combination of materials designed to allow the board to perform to the highest levels given the constraints of the flexibility of the materials. All boards feature an integrated Fin System, 2 or 3 Wooden Stringers depending on the size of the board to ensure the board is stiff enough. A light weight EPS core combined with a PE foam layer on the deck and a High Density PE Slick that is mounted to a thin PE Foam layer on the bottom give the board an awesome feel in the water. Soft enough not to hurt should you fall on it but hard enough to handle the power of the waves.

    LIGHTWEIGHT, MID-LENGTH PERFORMANCE

Performance minimal’s are one of the funnest, most versatile boards you can own. Great for first waves, perfect for gliding small clean waves and with the paddle and pick up for larger or junkier surf.

Usually a performance minimal comes at a cost; the size of the board means to make it lightweight they are inherently weak and lose their responsive feel quickly or simply break. With the Torq TEC construction you get a lightweight board with all the strength of a much heavier one and much more responsivity.

Our combination of carbon strips on the top and bottom make these boards super lively and surf a lot shorter than their length.

    ACT:

Torq ACT surfboards are the world’s first EPS/Epoxy Pre-Preg surfboards. The technological advantages are immense, but the most significant advantage is 100% controlled process with ZERO surplus resin.

On any surfboard the resin’s function is to hold the fiber in place. It offers little structural integrity of it’s own, little flex and little impact strength. As a material without the fiber it is heavy and brittle. Any surplus resin is dead weight - resisting flex, adding weight.

With Pre-Preg process the perfect amount of resin is added to the cloth by machine, before the shaped blank is laid up - zero surplus, zero dead weight.

    ECOSKIN TECH:

Aloha Surfboards ECOSKIN Technology is a small step toward producing surfboards that are manufactured with more Earth Friendly ethics.

Paulownia timber is perfectly suited as a sustainable alternative in surfboard production due to it's naturally high strength to weight ratio! One of the fastest growing trees in the world Paulownia production places less stress on the environment saving water and natural resources!

Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) foam is very light and strong. EPS foam has more buoyancy and flotation increasing paddling speed and maneuverability.

Epoxy Resin is a healthier alternative to polyester as epoxy emits 50-75% fewer VOCs, decreasing the amount of harmful chemicals released into the environment.

ECOSKIN Surfboards are utilising less toxic materials during production and through these measures we are taking steps to decrease our carbon foot print.

“This design is the first Nugget I shaped in 1994.

Proven to be a very versatile performer in a wide range of wave conditions from 1′ ~ 8′ all around the surfing world; thicker wider and shorter with more volume and buoyancy than you have had before, easy to paddle and catch waves, easy to control, with more speed than you have had in years! When it starts to barrel, you will be laughing.” Geoff McCoy

    Biaxial Fibre Glass
has about half of its fibres aligned along the length of the cloth (0 degrees) and about half across the cloth (90 degrees) lending itself as a perfect option for creating a controlled flex pattern.

Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) foam is a version of polystyrene foam typically found in the core of Firewire surfboards. EPS is typically the lightest of the three foams used in surfboard construction resulting in a much lighter board translating to increased buoyancy and floatation. Basically the lowest density or lightest board will float you the best! The advantage of better buoyancy is added paddling speed and increased manoeuvrability allowing you to ride a smaller board. EPS foam core is also less likely to deteriorate over time!

Epoxy Resin is a healthier alternative to polyester as epoxy emits 50-75% fewer VOCs (volatile organic compounds) than polyester resin, which means a decrease in harmful chemicals in the shop and the environment in general. In fact, epoxy is a common household item, safe to use without a mask and with only moderate ventilation. Epoxy is lighter than polyester. Under most circumstances, resin makes up a large part of a completed board’s overall weight. Not only is epoxy lighter than polyester, but less is needed per coat. This ends up meaning a lighter surfboard – a big plus for most surfers. The biggest bonus However is the durability and strength of epoxy resin.

All XF boards are constructed using a 36gram EPS core with a high-grade timber stringer, each board is hand laminated using epoxy resign and biaxial fibreglass on the deck providing a lighterstronger board that feels fast and responsive under your feet increasing performance in a wide variety of conditions!

  • TORQ Act Chopper - Black Rails /Brushed Gray

The Chopper is a versatile shape – it’s a cruisey ride when the conditions suit, but give it a big open face and it’ll fire on all cylinders.

We’ve updated the shape with more forward volume for a more flowy, forward trim style of surfing from the front half of the board but with slightly more flip in the tail rocker for tighter turns and aggressive surfing. This is a very user friendly board that suits small wave days and pumping days as well.

With a 2+1 fin set-up it can be ridden as anything from glidey single fin, 2+1 or thruster.

  • Torq Tec Rusty Egg Not - White

Simply put, the Egg Not is a squash tail version of our mid-length board, the eGG. With the increasing popularity of mid-lengths, we decided it was more or less a given that we offer a squash tail mid-length board. The Squash tail adds a little more area, lengthens the rail line, and has a more pivoty feel compared to a roundtail. The Egg Not is a great board to have in your quiver. When the surf is average, you’ll have plenty of wave catching ability and it will carry through sections but the board will still be loose enough to turn with ease. As a plus, when the surf gets a bit bigger, it still works surprisingly well! The Egg Not features a relaxed rocker on the front end of the board which helps with paddle speed, wave catching, and overall glide. The curve is a bit above average which translates to helping tighten the arc of your turns without giving up speed. The thickness of the board is a little on the thin side for a board this size. These leaner rails make the board easier to put in the water and also helps it hold better in bigger surf. Fin setup here is your call. For a higher performance feel we recommend a 4-fin setup. If you’re looking for something a little cruisier or more traditional feel do a 2 plus one setup.

    TEC - TORQ EPOXY COMPOSITE

Torq Epoxy Composite offers performance shapes in our state-of-the-art epoxy layup. These boards have the best balance of Lightweight versus Durability. Using our own unique lamination process, we are able to use a very strong fiberglass lay-up of 6oz and 4oz combined in 3 layered deck and 2 layered base (with a 4 layered rail lap) with a high density EPS foam, but still achieve a board weight that matches a lightweight fiberglass lay-up.

The result is light but very strong board, with good flex characteristics and as with all torq's, excellent value for money.

The TEC shortboards have 2 full layers of fiber over the deck and bottom. On the deck we use an extra 6oz deck patch with gives triple layer ding resistance, but doesn't resist the flex along the rail. The addition of a carbon filament stringer and UD carbon twin strips on the base makes these super springy and responsive.

  • Torq Act Volume +

The Volume Plus takes the trend for high volume wide boards into the midlength model, creating a board with the stability and paddle ability of a much longer board, but in a compact, easier to turn package.

These boards suit all surfers of all abilities, whether looking for a first board or quiver builder for fun days. The high volume makes it super easy to catch waves while the rocker and bottom contours make this lively and agile underfoot with more performance than you would expect from a larger board. Great for beginners, great for bigger surfers wanting a shorter board. Tri-fin set-up.
